Ukrain - anti kanker medicijn ?

During the presentation by Dr
Jaroslaw W. Nowicky, Director of the Ukrainian Anti-Cancer Institute of Vienna
(Austria), the congress organizers announced his nomination by colleagues for
the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. When it is injected intravenously in therapeutic
doses, Ukrain destroys carcinogenic cells by stimulating their
suicide or apoptosis without affecting healthy cells. Ukrain has
been the object of investigations and studies by 159 scientists from 56
universities in 26 different countries. Results have been presented in 220
international scientific congresses and symposia. Details of the properties of
Ukrain have been published in 192 scientific publications.

van Eleonore Thun-Hohenstein maar eens:
In de database van de Amerikaanse
overheid vond ik dit onderzoek:
Retrospective study of Ukrain
treatment in 203 patients with advanced-stage tumors.
Aschhoff B. Villa Medica Clinic,
Edenkoben, Germany.
A total of 203 advanced-stage cancer
patients suffering from different types of cancer who had exhausted all conventional forms
of therapy were treated with the novel antitumor drug Ukrain over a period of 2.5 years at
the Villa Medica Clinic in Germany. Seventy-six patients (37.4%) were simultaneously
treated with regional deep hyperthermia in which tumor tissue was heated to > 42.5
degrees C. Patients also received complementary oncological treatment with selen,
cimetidine, thyme extract and vitamin A. In view of the advanced stage of the disease, the
results of therapy were surprising. Forty-one patients (20.2%) achieved total remission,
122 (60.1%) partial remission and only 40 (19.7%) did not respond to treatment. The
highest response rates were in patients with seminoma (three out of four patients had
total remission and one had partial remission) and in prostate cancer [14 out of 20
patients (70%) achieved total remissions and five achieved partial remission].

Results of Ukrain therapy in patients with various
advanced-stage cancers
National Cancer Institute,
Bethesda, Maryland, USA
Almost all cancer cell lines
demonstrated growth inhibition of between 50% and 100%, which, at higher concentrations
(50µg/ml) turned into a cytolytic effect with a reduction of total cell mass.
The highest concentration of
Ukrain (50µg/ml) inhibited the proliferation of normal cells (endothelial cells,
fibroblasts, keratinocytes, prostate epithelial cells) without any cytotoxic effect.
The chemotherapeutic
compound, 5-Fluorouracil, which was investigated under identical conditions, completely
inhibited growth only in a few cell lines under extremely high concentrations (500µg/ml),
while a reduction in cell mass was never observed.

The Ukrainian Anti-Cancer Institute
(UACI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to free and independent scientific research
on Ukrain®. To the present day 16 countries have participated in the UACI research with
more than 150 scientists in 46 universities and research institutes.
The results of UACI research are regularly presented on international congresses and
published in scientific magazines. In June 1997 alone a total of 31 presentations were
held on three international congresses.

Ukrain - a new cancer cure?
A systematic review of randomised
clinical trials.
Ukrain is an anticancer drug based on the
extract of the plant Chelidonium majus L. Numerous pre-clinical and clinical
investigations seem to suggest that Ukrain is pharmacologically active and clinically
effective. We wanted therefore to critically evaluate the clinical trial data in the form
of a systematic review.
CONCLUSION: The data from randomised
clinical trials suggest Ukrain to have potential as an anticancer drug. However, numerous
caveats prevent a positive conclusion, and independent rigorous studies are urgently
needed.
