Benzylalcohol en kinderen
Benzylalcohol wordt aangewend als conserveermiddel. Het probleem met deze verbinding is
dat jonge kinderen benzylalcohol niet kunnen afbreken tot benzoëzuur waardoor cumulatie
kan ontstaan. Door ophoping van deze stof in het centraal zenuwstelsel zijn de volgende
bijwerkingen beschreven: metabole acidose, vasodilatatie, paralyse, epileptische
aanvallen, ademhalingsdepressie en dood.
Hieronder is een overzicht gegeven van
alle benzylalcoholbevattende producten welke in Nederland zijn geregistreerd. De lijst is
ingedeeld in injectiepreparaten, radiofarmaceutica en overigen systemisch (o.a. rektiolen
en suspensies)en overigen locaal (o.a. crèmes). De indeling is op naam van het werkzame
